As intangible as the internet is, physical objects still play a major part in keeping the internet tangibly socialable. A variety of factors such as the obliteration of borders and the homogenisation of space and time has resulted in an “internet of things (iot)”. The term “iot” came about in 1999 at the MIT media lab. The iot is the working and connecting of physical devices to the internet in order to enable these objects to collect and exchange data.
For example, Toyota Friend is an iot. Toyota friend is a closed social network that enables the driver to interact with the car. Objects have now been given the ability to interact with each other and develop their own intelligence. Soon man and machine will be equal. Interactions with iots will become second nature and objects will be seen to have a significantly more meaningful purpose and value.
